Named after two villages that demarcate the north/south boundaries, Pessac-Léognan was created in 1987 as a sub-appellation of Graves and consists of 10 communes that are home to its more famous producers. Malartic Lagraviere is located near Léognan at the southern end of the AC. People may not be very familiar with Malartic, but over the last 24 years, this winery has been building up its reputation from an under-achieving producer to one of high quality and good value. Since 1997, the Bonnie family has committed money and skill to bring the Château to new heights and make elegant, powerful, and exciting wines. 2015 Malartic Lagraviere is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Petit Verdot aged 18 months in French oak.
Flavor Profile: Full medium-bodied, dry. This classic Graves shows a ripe palate with plums and black currants with a seductive nose of black fruit. It finishes with satisfying flavors of mocha, cassis, and charcoal. This wine is drinking well right now and can be cellared for another 15 years. Pair with classic accompaniments like a leg of lamb (light on the garlic), roast beef, venison, squab, pheasant, and stinky cheeses like blue or Camembert.
